Geography
Located on the floodplains of the Indus and Saraswati Rivers in modern day Pakistan, the Indus River Valley Civilization benefited from regular flooding brought about by monsoons that produced the most calorie efficient land in the entire world providing the necessary surplus that a civilization needs to grow and prosper. Natural barriers like the Hindu Kush Mountains on the north, the Himalayas in the northeast, and the Arabian Sea in the southwest protected the inhabitants of the region from numerous foreign threats like the Indo-European invaders (until the Aryans, of course) and disease.

Side note:
As seen on the left here, many sites of the Indus River Valley Civilization are ironically located not on the Indus itself, but on the dry riverbed of the Saraswati River. This also supports the theory that the decline of this major group of people was the result of not UFO's but an environmental disaster that could have dried up or changed the course of the Saraswati since as we all know, the Indus is still there.
