Introduction
Lasting from around 3000 (according to John Green, but others suggest 2500) ~ 1750 BCE, the Indus River Valley was home to the largest of all ancient civilizations with over 1500 known archaeological sites in modern day Pakistan. However, we mostly refer to the largest cities: Mohenjo-Daro meaning “hill of the dead” and Harappa, which was named after a surrounding village. This group of people developed many ideas that correspond with many great empires, such as a canal system, the world’s first sewer system, and grid patterned walled streets that lined the city. In addition, by looking back at artifacts, inferences can be made about their politics and society. Like many others, the civilization started out as a group of agricultural societies and prospered for a thousand or so years, but then they disappeared to a mysterious cause (likely natural disasters or foreign invaders).
